Arndt & Partner GmbH
In 1994, Arndt & Partner became the first commercial gallery with West German roots in Berlin Mitte. Matthias Arndt proceeded to build Arndt & Partner into a successful business and an internationally renowned gallery with branches in Berlin and Zurich as well as representatives in Beijing and New York.
Many internationally acclaimed artists had their first solo gallery exhibitions in Berlin or even in all of Germany at Arndt & Partner. These included: Sophie Calle, Thomas Hirschhorn and Nedko Solakov (1995), Muntean/Rosenblum (2004), Julian Rosefeldt (2006), Erik Bulatov, Vik Muniz and Jonas Burgert (2008), and Gilbert & George (2009).
The artists Yayoi Kusama (2006), Jules de Balincourt (2006), Rachel Harrison (2004 and 2007), Claude Lévêque (2002) and Bjarne Melgaard (1998) also had their first Berlin shows at Arndt & Partner.
Arndt & Partner also presented a number of monographic shows and thematic group exhibitions, such as “The Aggression of Beauty” (1996), “Storytellers” (1997), “Habitat” (2004) and “Sweet Bird of Youth” (2007, curated by Hedi Slimane), featuring the work of artists such as Christian Boltanski, Louise Bourgeois, Rafal Bujnowski, Wim Delvoye, Tracey Emin, Günter Fruhtrunk, Ilya und Emilia Kabakov, Johannes Kahrs, Paul McCarthy, Yan Pei-Ming, Anselm Reyle, Ugo Rondinone, Lawrence Weiner and Gillian Wearing.
By December 2009, Arndt & Partner has been responsible for 200 solo and group shows plus 70 international art fair participations, including Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze Art Fair, The Armory Show, FIAC, ARCO and ART HK.
